SpaceX launches the tenth test flight of its reusable heavy rocket Starship launch vehicle from Boca Chica on Sunday, August 24.
SpaceX’s Flight 9 marked the first reuse of a Super Heavy booster, but Booster 14‑2 exploded mid-air about six minutes after launch during a landing attempt in the Gulf of Mexico. It was reportedly due to structural failure from aerodynamic stress and a ruptured fuel line.
The next Starship flight will test more landing burns on the Super Heavy booster and aim to deploy a payload for the first time, along with reentry trials to help bring the upper stage back to the launch site.
