Bolivia’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) begins the official vote count of ballots from abroad*in La Paz on Sunday, August 17, after the presidential election concludes.
Results are set to be updated progressively on the tribunal’s website, with initial figures expected in the coming hours. Eight candidates are competing in a race shaped by economic crisis.
The MAS party, in power since 2005 except for 2019–2020, fields Eduardo del Castillo. Other contenders include businessman Samuel Doria Medina of the Unity Bloc, former president Jorge 'Tuto' Quiroga, Cochabamba Mayor Manfred Reyes Villa, Senator Rodrigo Paz Pereira, and Senate President Andronico Rodriguez.
A runoff is scheduled for October 19 if no candidate secures an outright majority.
