    Live from Taitung on Thursday, August 14, following Typhoon Podul’s landfall on Wednesday with winds exceeding 191 km/h.

    Taitung, a coastal city in southeastern Taiwan facing the Pacific Ocean, experienced widespread disruption from the storm.

    The typhoon forced the evacuation of 5,500 people and prompted the deployment of the military to assist. Hundreds of flights were cancelled, including 252 domestic and 129 international flights. Nine municipalities, including Kaohsiung and Tainan, closed offices and suspended classes, while Taipei reported no major impact.

    One person is reported missing and 33 others injured. The storm brought heavy rainfall, with up to 600 millimetres recorded in mountainous regions
