The high-level General Debate for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 80) kicks off in New York City on Tuesday, September 23.
Leaders from 193 member states will gather for the annual meeting, entitled 'Better Together', which aims to address key global challenges.
UNGA 80 will be presided over by former German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock. She has outlined focus areas for her presidency, including advancing the reform plan of Secretary General Antonio Guterres for UN effectiveness and transparency, as well as progress towards 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development goals.
A number of members are expected to recognise the State of Palestine, while African nations are calling for fairer representation on the UN Security Council.
