The UN Security Council holds an emergency meeting in New York City at Iran’s request following Israeli strikes on its territory, on Friday, June 13.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged the Council to take action, accusing Israel of crossing red lines and breaching international law.
Tehran said the strikes killed several senior commanders and scientists, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warning of 'severe punishment'.
Israel claimed it targeted nuclear and military facilities to disrupt Iran’s weapons programme. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the operation, saying it would continue as long as was necessary.
