The Grand Egyptian Museum officially opens beside the Pyramids of Giza on Saturday, November 1.
Overlooking the desert plateau along the Nile, the $1 billion architectural landmark is set to become the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization, showcasing more than 50,000 artifacts spanning Egyptian history.
World leaders and dignitaries are expected to attend.
The project began following an international design competition in 2003, with construction starting in 2005. Work was delayed for several years after the 2011 uprising, and the opening was postponed multiple times, most recently in July amid regional instability.
