The aftermath of celebrations that drew thousands of people to Paulista Avenue in São Paulo is seen following Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s victory over Flávio Bolsonaro in Sunday’s presidential runoff election.
Lula delivered his victory speech in the city, thanking the Brazilian people for their support and highlighting the importance of voter participation in defending democracy.
Lula won 51.79% of the valid votes, compared with Bolsonaro’s 48.21%, securing a fourth non-consecutive presidential term.
Flávio Bolsonaro, meanwhile, refused to recognize the results and announced that he would seek to annul the election.
